When I think about music, I think about how it affects children's self-esteem. When a kid looks at a difficult piece, they have to analyze it, they have to find a solution to a very complex problem. If they are sitting in a group, they have to look at a conductor. They have to listen. They have to watch. They have to manipulate keys or drumstick in a manner to produce a sound. When they are able to do all of those things, I think, life becomes more simpler. I do not want to understate the complexities of math, but when you learn the math formula. As a musician, you have to spend a lot of time working on it every day. As a kid, when they can look back at a performance and re-live that over and over again.
